effects of climate change

Climate change is viewed as a complex system consisting:

–     The atmosphere

–     Land surface

–     Snow and ice

–     Oceans and other bodies of water

–     Biological organisms

Adaptation to climate change

  • It’s a response strategy aiming to alleviate the adverse impacts of climate change through a wide range of actions
  • Adjustments in ecological, social or economic systems to actual or expected stimuli and their effects or impacts
  • Changes in processes, practices and structures to moderate potential damages or to benefit from opportunities associated with climate change

Mitigation

  • Strategies to limit climate change by reducing the emissions of GHG
  • Appropriate technologies removing GHG from the atmosphere or reducing release
  • Involves global e.g. carbon sequestration (carbon capture and long-term storage)
  • Replace, displace and avoiding emission

Become part of the process….lets Fight Climate Change together….

The ultimate objective of the UNFCCC, as stated in its Article 2, is to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations “in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system”. It is increasingly evident that women are at the centre of the climate change challenge. Women are disproportionately affected by climate change impacts, such as droughts, floods and other extreme weather events, but they also have a critical role in combatting climate change
